I sepecialise in building custom WordPress sites for organisations in Brighton and beyond. WordPress is the world’s most popular online content management system and with good reason. It offers a familar and easy-to-use interface for website owners in Brighton and beyond. And it offers almost limitless options in terms of functionality, courtesy of its plugin ecosystem. Website owners can also fully customise the design, thanks to its use of themes.
WordPress.com is where many people get started, as it allows you to get an attractive and functional website up and running really quickly.
However, WordPress.org is the platform more often chosen by businesses and organisations as it offers far more customisation options and user control. The big difference between the two is that WordPress.org is open source and self hosted. This means the website owner needs to organise for a hosting provider to serve all the site’s files and data. It also means that all of WordPress.org’s core, theme and plugin files can be freelly edited.
Realising the full potential of WordPress
This is where a Brighton based WordPress developer comes in. Some business owners may choose to tinker with their WordPress sites themselves but an experienced developer will be able to release the platform’s full potential. And how many business owners have the time to really get to grips with an unfamiliar web platform?
A WordPress developer will be able to build a theme which exactly matches the requirement and vision of their client. And she will find and customise relevant plugins to realise the necessary functionality. Or she will build custom plugins should an existing resource not be available.
When I develop a site in WordPress I start by building a local version on my own computer. This allows me to work quickly and with complete freedom to edit all the site’s files and data. I then upload the site to a test server to allow the client to see it and use it as their customers would.
Once everyone is happy I will push the site to a live environment and it’s ready to go.
But WordPress development doesn’t stop at site launch. I can set up and manage the hosting arrangement for clients, fix bugs that might occur and make sure the site’s theme and plugins are kept up-to-date. I will typically do this through the use of a staging site. This is an exact replica of the live site that can be used to test whether updated plugins or themes will have any effect on a site’s appearance or functionality.
Some of the recent WordPress sites I’ve developed include:
I do WordPress development work for clients across the UK and beyond. But if you’re based in Brighton or the surrounding area I’d be happy to meet for a coffee to discuss your project.
